Eileen M. Sharkey, CFP®

Eileen M. Sharkey, CFP® served as Co-founder and Principal of Sharkey, Howes & Javer until she retired on December 31, 2020. She remained a pioneer in the industry and dear friend of the firm until her passing on April 19, 2021. Eileen will be truly missed but never forgotten as her wisdom, kindness, inspiration, and impact will live on as we look forward to carrying on her legacy for many years to come.

Eileen began her career as an Actuary designing corporate pension and profit sharing plans. She discovered that advocating the necessity of lifelong planning was her passion and in 1978 she earned her CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification, and began helping individuals and small businesses create personalized investment and retirement plans.

In 1990, Eileen formed the firm Sharkey, Howes & Javer with partners, Lawrence E. Howes, MBA, CFP® and Joel B. Javer, CLU, CFP®. The firm continues to grow to a team of many staff members including several CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals who serve over 1,200 clients.

As a financial educator and expert, Mrs. Sharkey has been quoted in local and national publications including The Wall Street Journal and Money Magazine.

Throughout her career, she presented numerous speeches and workshops to audiences of all ages that appreciated her ability to make complex financial information practical and easy to understand.

Eileen Chaired the Board of the College for Financial Planning, and she is Chairman Emeritus of the Denver Ballet Guild Endowment Trust. Eileen was an active member of several professional organizations including the Women’s Estate Planning Council of Colorado, the Financial Planning Association, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors and the American Association of Individual Investors.

Originally from England, Eileen obtained degrees from London University, England and from Newman University, Kansas. Her memory will continue to be a driving force for our organization and a reminder of the positive change she helped deliver to the financial services industry as a whole.
