Karlton D. Childress, CFP®, joined Sharkey, Howes & Javer in September of 2000 and became a shareholder of the firm in 2005. He currently serves on the firm’s Investment Committee and Financial Planning Committee.
In preparing personal financial plans for clients, Karlton continually places a significant amount of emphasis on gaining the perspective of each individual client and addressing the “big picture.” This allows him to understand their specific financial goals and objectives so that he may provide a clear and concise game plan tailored to the client.
“I chose this profession because I observed many people who earned a good living and worked hard but who didn’t plan many aspects of their financial life and they ended up with a less than ideal retirement picture”, said Karlton. “What is most gratifying is when a client confidently makes an important decision based on the big picture that is provided by following their financial plan. They worry much less about finances and start enjoying life much more.”
Karlton was named to the board of trustees of the Denver Ballet Guild Endowment Trust in 2010 and assists the board in managing the endowment trust. He is an active member of the Financial Planning Association of Colorado and has worked with NEFE (National Endowment for Financial Education) as a guest educator in local high schools. One of his aspirations is to help Colorado’s youth understand basic financial concepts and how to become financially responsible.
Karlton earned his Bachelor of Science and Business Administration degree from the University of Denver in June, 1994 and his CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification in 2001.
Karlton’s personal interests include coaching youth sports, golfing, basketball, running and most importantly, spending time with his wife and three children.
